Curiosity Club: Non-Alcoholic Herbal Tinctures

Join Herbalista Lorna Mauney-Brodek to learn how to transform plants into remedies you can grab off the shelf when you or your family need them most!

Many herbal tinctures you buy in the store are alcohol-based. We’ll be exploring the world of non-alcoholic tinctures that are family-friendly, delicious, and shelf-stable. We’ll also discuss the importance of keeping herbal remedies accessible to the community. The remedies we make will go to support the underserved via the Herb Bus Free Mobile Clinic. Doors at 6:30, Demo 7-8ish.

Proceeds from the tickets from this event go directly to The Homestead Atlanta. Homestead Atlanta members are welcome for FREE (though if you wanted to buy a ticket as an additional contribution, we certainly wouldn't be mad about it!)

Saturday: 12-10pm and Ormwood Park Makers Festival!

Saturday: 12-10pm and Ormwood Park Makers Festival!

We are proud to announce that we are the official alcohol sponsor of the Ormwood Park Makers Festival!

“We believe that to “make” is to create, through craftsmanship, artistic ingenuity and sheer homegrown talent. The Ormewood Park Makers Festival seeks to showcase our local makers, as well as provide an opportunity for community participation and learning.”

WHAT IS A MAKERS FESTIVAL?

Many friends and neighbors have heard the buzz: Ormewood Park is ramping up for this spring’s Makers Festival. For some, the first question is, “What is a Maker?”

To “make” is to create, through cleverness and skilled hands, everything from handmade fashion and jewelry, to woodworking and blacksmithing, photography and fine art, to food and music.

Every person who can make something is a Maker.

Whether you’re someone who can make something as simple as a Christmas tree ornament or someone who can blow glass or do blacksmithing, you’re considered a Maker. As football player Chris Williamson, a Maker himself, says:

“A maker is anyone that uses their abilities to create, whether it be mechanical, electrical, musical, visual or anything else. This world is full of things that were created by Makers. Without Makers, there would be no innovation and creation. That want of those things, and teaching myself how to make things in order to have them is the engine of everything I have achieved in my whole life up till now… It doesn’t matter what you make, and it doesn’t matter why. The importance is that you are making something.”

So, back to the original question: What is a Makers Festival?

A Makers Festival is an event that provides an opportunity for people to gather, connect as a community, and explore the processes of making. Makers can show off what they make and how they make it through displays, demonstrations, workshops and hands-on activities. Our festival will celebrate innovators, creators and designers, crafters, educators, tinkerers, food artisans, hobbyists, engineers and artists. The Makers Festival will be part arts festival, part crafts fair, and part something entirely new!

The Tasting Room will be open from 12-10pm today as well! No matter your location, you an get your hands on an Eventide Brew.

January’s show will benefit a long loved institution, The Giving Kitchen! Many in the service industry are there because they love it or simply because they need to be. Though many of us love the industry, it’s a hard life with little in the way of insurance and assistance if something keeps your from working for any period of time. The Giving Kitchen is here to help. They provide assistance to the working in the event of illness, injury, death or natural disaster.
